The HKAF is proud to announce that Einstein on the Beach (EOB) has just won the 2013 Olivier Award for the "Best New Opera Production of the Year". Hong Kong is the only Asian location in which the production is presented in its global circuit, and the production attracted not only local attention but also regional audiences and media coverage, enhancing the artistic leadership position of the city and HKAF. That it played to capacity houses in 41st HKAF is testament to the discernment of HKAF audiences; and the successful run showcased Hong Kong’s staging and production capabilities.
Congrats to the 2012 HKAF commissioned production The Wild Boar on winning the Best Set Design (Tsang Man-tung) and Top 10 Most Popular Performances at the 22nd Hong Kong Drama Awards.
The 41st Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) officially opens today with the American Ballet Theatre’s performance of Dance Gala. Hailed as one of the world’s leading classical ballet companies, the ABT also performs Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet, under the leadership of Artist Director Kevin McKenzie. This year’s Festival continues to receive an overwhelming response from audiences. As of 20 February, over 103,000 tickets have been sold, which accounts for over 85% of all seats. Tickets for available performances will continue to be offered during the Festival period.
