Concert Hall, HK Cultural Centre
"Elder and the Hallé have perhaps the best rapport of any conductor/orchestra partnership right now, and their concerts are extravagantly lauded worldwide." The Times
In existence for over 150 years, the Hallé is Britain’s oldest professional symphony orchestra. Founded in Manchester, England by the German pianist and conductor Charles Hallé, the orchestra has undergone the guidance of distinguished figures such as Hans Richter, Sir Hamilton Harty and Sir John Barbirolli, to perform and champion works by Elgar, Dvorak and Wagner.
Sir Mark Elder has sparked the orchestra since his appointment in 1999. Previously Chief Conductor at the English National Opera, for 14 years known as the ‘powerhouse‘ era, great developments have been seen since leading one of the finest orchestras in the British Isles (The Times) whilst simultaneously building his reputation as a conductor of symphonic music. His music directorship in part explains the orchestra’s international fame and repute far exceeding its provincial origin.
