“Many great contributions of mankind were often deemed as radical or even unpalatable in their time, such as Picasso’s paintings, Socrates’s contributions to philosophy and Beethoven’s late string quartets. Beginning with the stormy Sonata in B minor by Haydn and followed by the stinging chromaticism of Mozart’s Rondo in A minor, the programme then moves to the relatively modern Elis by Heinz Holliger, and concludes with Liszt’s Sonata in B minor, which was received with suspicion and indifference in its time. Rising to immortality, these works have truly stood the test of time. Timelessness is the nature of all great art.”

Wong Chi-yan, March 2010

Described by the Dutch newspaper Trouw as "remarkable... emotionally advanced for his age", Wong Chi-yan's sensitive playing dives deep into the meaning of music and explores its infinite possibilities of expression.

Faith has inspired many exceptional works of art. Wong brings technical brilliance and expressive delicacy to a programme that explores spirituality in music, including works by two deeply devout believers, Liszt and Messiaen, together with Beethoven's Sonata in C which occupies a special place in Wong’s musical journey with its youthful exuberance and joyful radiance.

Born in Hong Kong, the 21-year-old Wong has given recitals and performed as a soloist with orchestras in Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Ukraine and the UK.
