About This Programme

Heavenly music coupled with a fabulous view. Solo cellist Wang Jian plays Bach’s suites on the 55th floor of Two IFC. This unique experience will thrill concert-goers.

In 1979 Isaac Stern’s historic visit to China was recorded in the celebrated Oscar-winning documentary film From Mao to Mozart, which introduced Wang to music lovers the world over: the ten-year-old created a sensation playing Saint-Saëns’s First Cello Concerto with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. He launched his professional career after studying in the US and has since recorded extensively. The Washington Post lauded him “a master luminist, drawing complex shades out of each chord” from a performance of Bach’s suite, and his recording is said to be a “must for any collection” by BBC Magazine.
