A symposium on creating successful spaces for arts activities 13 Feb 2009 2:00 - 5:00pm Fee: $150 Download Application Form. Co-presented with The British Council
The annual symposium is a significant and integral part of the Hong Kong Arts Festival. It is an opportunity for contemplation, examination and discussion about a subject that is crucial to the arts community, pertinent to the cultural development of Hong Kong and complementary to the work of the Festival. KeynoteThe symposium this year addresses the following questions: “What are the active ingredients for planning and operating successful arts spaces? What sort of input is required? From whom? And at what points in the planning process?” The West Kowloon Cultural District offers an unprecedented opportunity to create exciting, engaging spaces for arts activities. Much more than a collection of venues, this is where the arts can come alive, become an integral part of the life of this dynamic city and play a leading role in the international fraternity of arts practitioners. This symposium will ask what primary factors are to be considered in planning and designing spaces for the arts and what lessons can be learned from recent experience elsewhere in the world. Is there a textbook model to which architects, acousticians and lighting experts should adhere? Should form be guided by function? Who are the ultimate end-users and what responsibilities should they assume? How can different stake holders work together to achieve optimal outcomes for all?
