Guo Wenjing is currently a professor and supervisor for doctoral candidates at the Department of Composition at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. The New York Times described Guo as “the only Chinese composer not having lived overseas for a long time but with an international standing”. In 1999, Guo was commissioned by the Hong Kong Arts Festival to compose the chamber opera, Night Banquet. His works have been performed at festivals in Edinburgh, Paris, Holland and New York, and theatres in London, Frankfurt and Rouen. Guo won seven awards at national composition contests and received the National Class One Award for Education Performance and the Baogang Education Award.
