Trisha Brown Dance Company

Special Remarks Special Remarks

“A steadfast figure of American post-modern dance who made us love dance for her freedom, her way of redefining representations of the body beyond the usual virtuosity” The Guardian

“I’m struck all over again by Brown’s vision” Deborah Jowitt, The Village Voice

“She took the everyday movement of our pedestrian lives and gave it back to us new” The New York Times

Challenging, changing and defining the art of dance for more than four decades

Trisha Brown, restless innovator, creator of more than one hundred choreographic works, a genius acclaimed as much by the world of art as of dance.

She is the recipient of countless honours including a Bessie ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and her formidable influence is acknowledged by a host of today’s top choreographers. She has collaborated with visual artist Robert Rauschenberg, musician Laurie Anderson, dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov and opera singer Simon Keenlyside - great stars in their own domains. From first performances in alternative sites of Manhattan’s SoHo to landmark opera houses and theaters around the world where the work is seen today, the repertory ranges from small pieces to major full length works.

The Festival’s Trisha Brown season showcases iconic works from each decade of an astonishing career, embracing seminal pieces of the 60s and 70s and selected classics. Her life-long friendship and collaboration with Rauschenberg are celebrated in Set and Reset (1983), Foray Forêt (1990) and If you couldn’t see me (1994). The programme also features I’m going to toss my arms – if you catch them they’re yours and Les Yeux et l’âme (2011), both are latest additions to Brown’s repertory.
