A new generation of Thai and Laotian choreographers
Contemporary renditions of nuanced traditions

Fauwn Leb Identity is a work of eclectic sparks by Ronnarong Khampha and Waewdao Sirisook, two Thai dance artists who have been trained in traditional Thai and Indonesian dances as well as contemporary dance. Beginning with authentic highlights of fauwn leb, the traditional fingernail dance from northern Thailand, the work traces the innovative and shifting aspects of the dance form against the backdrop of globalised entertainment of today. By turns visceral, abstract, humorous and absurd, Fauwn Leb Identity is a stimulating dialogue between traditional and contemporary dance.

Originally from Laos and trained in hip-hop, the French-based Laotian dancer-choreographer Olé Khamchanla has developed his distinctive dance language through his immersion in hip-hop, capoeira, contemporary dance, and traditional Thai and Laotian dances. CERCLE, Khamchanla’s first solo performance in Hong Kong, continues his exploration of the interactions between humans and cultures—the circle encapsulates a universality that lies between Eastern and Western dances, between traditional sensibilities and contemporary expression.
