Finding Meaning in an Uncertain WorldChoose your own adventure What if dance is what you choose to believe in?
It appears to be difficult to fully encapsulate contemporary dance. With information and opinions overloading, how should audiences position themselves while appreciating dance works?
Choreographer Victor Fung explores the
logos of contemporary dance with a critical mindset—a perpetual theme of his work since
From the Top (2015 HKAF), in which he explored the power dynamic between choreographer and dancers. In
Finding Meaning in an Uncertain World, his focus turns to spectatorship: how contemporary dance generates meaning for the audience and how that meaning can be volatile and ever-changing.
In this 50-minute dance piece, audience members are challenged to frame the dance performed before them and perceive this performance from their own perspectives. This dance piece asks: does contemporary dance defy denotations and embrace only connotations?
Victor Fung, along with local dancers Tsang Wing-fai, Kenny Leung, Felix Wong and Christina Chan (Singapore), guide the audience on this journey full of uncertainties and solitary discoveries.
