The vitality of French chamber music explored
"The playing from the Debussy Quartet is highly persuasive." The Strad
INTRODUCTIONFamous for its devotion to the French repertoire, the Debussy String Quartet was winner of the Evian String Quartet Competition and founder of Les Cordes en Ballade Festival in Lyon. The quartet gives some 120 concerts each year in the world’s most prestigious music venues, and is bringing two contrasting programmes to the HKAF.
This concert reveals the great depth and vitality of French chamber music creativity: Debussy and Ravel each wrote one string quartet, much loved works whose popularity have never dimmed. These quartets take pride of place in an evening that also features rarely heard works by the Belgian born Guillaume Lekeu, and by one of the members of the famous Les Six, Germaine Tailleferre.
This wonderful concert uncovers the biggest French string quartet repertoire from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. A French feast for lovers of chamber music.
