An evening of chamber music for strings and winds

Founded in 1523, Bayerisches Staatsorchester (Bavarian State Orchestra) is one of the world’s oldest and finest ensembles. Over the past two centuries, the orchestra has been led by the most esteemed conductors—Richard Strauss, Bruno Walter, Sir Georg Solti, Zubin Mehta and currently Kirill Petrenko—and its legacy includes debuts of the epic operas of Wagner and Richard Strauss.

Following their performance of Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos at the 2020 Festival, eight musicians of the Bayerisches Staatsorchester will come together for a concert as a dedicated ensemble of wind and string instruments, performing rarely presented works for this unique combination of instruments: Nielsen’s bittersweet and lighthearted quintet, Schubert’s passionate unfinished quartet and his joyful chamber work, the six-movement Octet in F major. A delightful evening to relish in superb chamber music!
Nielsen
Serenata in vano for clarinet, horn, bassoon, cello and double bass

Schubert
Quartettsatz in C minor, D703
Octet in F major, D803
