Following concerts in 2018 hailed by the South China Morning Post as “controlled, dreamy and dazzling by turns”, Russian piano titan Denis Matsuev returns to the 2019 HKAF with an intimate, all-Tchaikovsky piano recital.

One of Russia’s most prominent pianists since his triumph in the 1998 International Tchaikovsky Competition, Matsuev will dazzle not only with his towering technique but also his unparalleled tone colour and lyricism. His interpretation of Tchaikovsky's much-loved Seasons plotting the course of a year in twelve pieces, the bittersweet “Meditation” contrasting moments of melancholy and ardour, and the massive symphonic “Grand Sonata” for piano will further illustrate the emotional depth and artistic range of this great pianist.
Tchaikovsky
The Seasons, Op 37a

Tchaikovsky
“Meditation”, Eighteen Pieces, Op 72, No 5

Tchaikovsky
Piano Sonata in G Major, Op 37, “Grand Sonata”
