Maverick of Poland’s jazz scene, Maciej Fortuna is a virtuoso trumpeter, composer, and producer whose music goes way beyond jazz norms with a melancholy lyricism intrinsic to the music of his homeland, classical, or modern. He brings two projects to Hong Kong, showcasing different facets of his artistry.Fortuna Plays Szymborska
jazz x poetry x animation
“[Fortuna] "took" the musicians in real time to the screen and put them between the letters of Wisława Szymborska’s poems.” babskimuchem.blox.plFortuna Plays Szymborska
shows Maciej Fortuna’s playful, experimental side. He pays tribute to Poland’s 1966 Nobel Literature Prize winner, Wisława Szymborska, magically revealing the melody, rhythm, timbre and colour in her use of words.
Hugely admired and influential, her poetry inspired Krzystof Kieslowski’s film, Three Colours: Red
and has provided lyrics for many best-selling Polish pop songs. Audio and video clips of Szymborska reading her own work, alongside stunning projected images by graphic designer Paweł Wypych complete this captivating, multimedia concert. Maciej Fortuna Special Quartet
