In 2010, Cantonese opera veteran Man Chin-sui wrote and starred with his wife Leung Siu-sum in an unconventional opera adaptation of a Biblical story: Noah’s Ark. Ten years later, Man’s disciple Lai Yiu-wai is re-staging Noah’s Ark with local talents, giving this Cantonese opera a revamped script and a fresh new look. In overhauling the show’s set and wardrobe designs, the creative team is referencing hand-painted gospel porcelain, a unique art form with close ties to Hong Kong. This short Behind-the-scenes film follows the creative team on their mission to rebuild Noah’s Ark with a contemporary touch.
