Neil Bartlett’s 2017 theatre adaptation of The Plague stripped Camus’s story bare and reshaped it into the format of a public inquiry, in which each character submits his own witness statement for the evaluation of the audience. In this Artist Sharing, James Chan, director of the Cantonese adaptation of the play and local cast members delve deep into the psychology and motives of their characters while reflecting on how their own experiences witnessing a real-life plague have informed their interpretations of the roles.
