“An entirely different level of artistry” The New York Times

Hailed as the “most highly developed form of puppet and figure theatre” and listed as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, the Salzburg Marionette Theatre has been Austria’s cultural ambassador since 1913. Since receiving a gold medal at the 1937 Paris World Expo, the theatre has led the field with distinctive craftsmanship in carving, painting and puppet mastery.  The puppeteers bring the marionettes to life, with fine acting expressing subtle emotions! Festival performances include The Sound of Music, one of the best loved musicals of all time, and Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, a story about love, bravery and freedom, to be premiered this year in Bonn, Beethoven’s birth place. A guaranteed fun time for both young and old!
