A new Chinese Hamlet for our time
Star Chinese actors in a dynamic new Hamlet

A brilliant new version of world’s most famous play comes to Hong Kong in a dynamic, contemporary Chinese translation.

Specially commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark is part of the RSC’s "Shakespeare Folio Project" which aims to make the playwright's work wholly accessible to Chinese speakers with new translations of all his dramatic works.

Director Li Liuyi's sold-out 2017 King Lear in Beijing was an earlier production in the same RSC series. His Hamlet features a distinguished mainland cast led by Pu Cunxin, Hu Jun, Lu Fong and Jing Hao with sets and costumes by award-winning Hong Kong art director and movie designer, William Chang.

Inspired by visits to Stratford to work with RSC creatives, and with translator Li Jinmiang embedded in the rehearsal process throughout, Li Liuyi's team strikes gold with this interpretation that grips from start to finish. A landmark theatre event.
