HKAF Awards:  Einstein on the Beach and Wild Boar

(Hong Kong, 30 April 2013) The HKAF is proud to announce that Einstein on the Beach (EOB) has just won the 2013 Olivier Award for the "Best New Opera Production of the Year".

Hong Kong is the only Asian location in which the production is presented in its global circuit, and the production attracted not only local attention but also regional audiences and media coverage, enhancing the artistic leadership position of the city and HKAF.  That it played to capacity houses in 41st HKAF is testament to the discernment of HKAF audiences;  and the successful run showcased Hong Kong’s staging and production capabilities.

At another recent award ceremony, the play Wild Boar, commissioned and produced by HKAF in 2013, scooped the Best Set Design Award and Top Ten Popular Performances at the 22nd Hong Kong Drama Awards.  Between 2009 and 2012, HKAF commissioned, produced and present 144 performances of new works by Hong Kong’s creative talent at home, elsewhere in China and farther afield in the region.
