A Grand Celebration of Peking and Kun Opera

Celebrated masters present highlights of the Peking and Kun opera repertoire

Yu Kuizhi, Artistic Director of the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, is the pre-eminent laosheng (mature male role) artist of his generation. Li Shengsu carries the mantle of the great Mei Lanfang, and is the leading qingyi (virtuous female role) performer of our time. Together they headline a programme of concert highlights and staged excerpts from the Academy’s repertoire.

The programme brings together some of the finest works in the Peking and Kun opera canon. Yu and Li will be joined by renowned guest artists including Wang Rongrong and Li Hongtu (of the Jingju Theater Company of Beijing) and Yang Chi (of the Dalian Peking Opera Theatre), representing the depth and breadth of the art of Peking and Kun opera.
