“Rhythm by screaming or screaming with rhythm”
Mario Maya, the maestro of Spanish dance
An enthralling, exhilarating journey into the heart and soul of Spain
After opening the 2024 Flamenco Festival in New York to rave reviews, Invocación—a dazzling production by Spain’s premier dance company, the Ballet Nacional de España—is now set to captivate Hong Kong audiences. This acclaimed production is a vibrant celebration of Spanish dance, showcasing a kaleidoscope of works by legendary choreographers across a range of genres.
At its core is De lo Flamenco—Tribute to Mario Maya (“About Flamenco”), a powerful tribute to Spain’s most influential flamenco dancer and choreographer Mario Maya. Whether you’re a seasoned flamenco fan or are seeing it for the first time, this unique, groundbreaking work by the Spanish dance maestro exemplifies the intensity, energy, sensuality and elegance which make flamenco one of the world’s most beloved styles of dance.
Another highlight, Invocación Bolera, brings to life one of the most distinctive styles in Spanish dance—a rare fusion of Baroque ballet, Spanish flair and the rhythmic clatter of castanets. The dancers will surprise audiences with the balletic quality of their steps as they pay tribute to the historic bolero, which has its roots in formal 18th-century dance as well as Andalusian folk dance.
Also featured in the programme is Jauleña, another work by artistic director Rubén Olmo. This striking solo distills the spirit and cultural richness of Spanish dance into a single, unforgettable performance. With its emotional intensity and refined technique, Jauleña offers a powerful glimpse into the soul of Spain.
Advance bookings will start at 10am on 16 October 2025
