In this multi-dimensional experience that transcends space and time, award-winning pianist Yu Xiangjun presents her virtuosic interpretations in a live piano performance combined with a multimedia installation, created with a team of visual artists and sound engineers from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. This pioneering recital will transport the audience into an interactive dreamscape of light and shadow, sound and rhythm.
Featuring Yu’s fresh renditions of contemporary Chinese opera compositions on the piano, this recital provides a unique artistic experience that remains faithful to the essence of the art form. The innovative programme includes works by pioneers and prolific composers of contemporary Chinese music such as Shao Qing, Qin Yi, Wang Amao and Zhu Jianer, as well as Chen Qigang, the last student of Olivier Messiaen.
With works such as Instants d’un Opéra de Pékin and Sheng Dan Jing Mo Chou that re-create the sounds and distinctive colours of Peking opera and conjure a vibrant musical portrait of the five key roles of the traditional Chinese art form, this concert promises to delight both music and theatre lovers.
