Gabriadze Theatre

Georgia’s marionette magic touches the heart

Since 1981, the Gabriadze Theatre in Tbilisi’s historic Old Town has been enchanting audiences from around the world with its intimate stage and refined craftmanship that’s often praised as magical and deeply moving.

Alfred and Violetta follows two lovers in 1990s Tbilisi, with their devotion tested by distance, upheaval and the forces of history; while Ramona tells the tender love story of two steam locomotives separated after World War II. The theatre’s Hong Kong debut offers audiences a precious chance to experience the magical world of Gabriadze up close and personal.

“Bearers of tiny heartbreaks…”

Georgian Today, on Alfred and Violetta

Ramona is a well-told story that will leave you feeling that you’ve regained some sense of whimsy, a little lightness that you left on the tracks long ago”
