Hamlet struggles to distinguish truth from deception and the stage itself seems to shift beneath him. His soliloquy, Ophelia’s suicide, the final duel… what if these iconic moments in Shakespeare’s tragedy were told without words?

Drawing on the emotional core of the play rather than its canonical text, director Robert Lepage and choreographer Guillaume Côté transform Hamlet into a powerful work of dance theatre. A handful of tables, flickering candlelight and lengths of fabric continuously reshape the stage into banquet halls, royal bedchambers and flowing rivers. Light, shadow and reflection blur the boundaries between reality and illusion, creating a world as unstable as Hamlet's own mind.

Led by Côté in the title role, nine dancers probe Hamlet's inner turmoil through powerful movements. The choreography draws on ballet, contemporary dance and street-dance influences, revealing the multitude of characters in the drama.

Composer John Gzowski's original score drives the action with an unusual palette of strings, voice, percussion, electric guitar and hurdy-gurdy. By turns cinematic and propulsive, the music deepens the atmosphere of a kingdom haunted by secrets and betrayal.
