“Make love, not war!” An Ancient Greek comedy reborn

Aristophanes still hits a nerve after 2,400 years. Commissioned by the Festival in co-production with the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre, this bold new staging brings a timeless comedy roaring into the present—directed by renowned Greek director Katerina Evangelatos and co-created with celebrated Chinese playwright Nick Rongjun Yu.

After its successful premiere in Shanghai in April 2026, this riotous and side-splitting comedy now arrives in Hong Kong, bringing together East and West in a whirlwind of song, dance and razor-sharp wit. What begins as comedy sharpens into a playful yet pointed exploration of sisterhood, resistance and national salvation, where softness and strength collide and comedy gives way to conviction.
