Grammy Award-winning wind ensemble Imani Winds will be performing at the Hong Kong Arts Festival.
Founding member and renowned bassoonist Monica Ellis will lead a masterclass for bassoon students, offering them personalised coaching and revealing the deep musical insights and refined artistry she has cultivated over the years as a leading chamber musician and educator.
Following the masterclass, Ellis will be joined by the other members of Imani Winds for an artist talk. Together, they will reflect on the ensemble’s journey since its founding in 1997 and discuss how, through diverse programming, they have advanced music education and amplified under-represented voices in the chamber music world, shaping Imani Winds’ distinctive artistic identity.
Imani Winds will be performing at the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival on 8 March 2026 at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.
The Hong Kong Arts Festival is now inviting applications from bassoon students to participate in this masterclass and receive direct instruction from Monica Ellis. Interested applicants are invited to email their full names, contact details (email and phone number), a short statement explaining why they wish to take part in the masterclass, the proposed repertoire for the masterclass and a video of them performing the first three minutes of the selected piece to plus@hkaf.org. The application deadline is 16 January 2026. Successful applicants will be notified individually about further details, including payment arrangements.
Please note that the fees listed on this webpage apply only to observers and do not apply to the students receiving direct instruction in the masterclass.
