“Mythmaking in Chinese Theatre: From Avant-Garde Theatre to the Cultural Industry”

Festival PLUS is delighted to present Meng Jinghui, the director of En attendant Godot, in the 13th edition of the Hong Kong Arts Festival’s Distinguished Cultural Leadership Series (DCLS).

Meng is a highly influential Chinese avant-garde theatre director, renowned both at home and abroad for his unique artistic language and innovative stage aesthetics. Starting with small theatre productions, he has built his works into a highly marketable brand and transformed them into a thriving theatrical industry.

Meng, Artistic Director of both the Wuzhen Theatre Festival and the Aranya Theatre Festival, will share his experiences in pioneering the contemporary theatre industry in China, as well as his valuable insights into establishing world-renowned festivals in the tourist destinations of Wuzhen and Aranya. He will reveal how he helped expand the theatre market through those events, nurtured creative talent, and built sustainable markets and international collaborations.
