During this year’s HKAF, the acclaimed Gulbenkian Choir from Portugal is bringing three performances to Hong Kong and Macau. As a meeting point of Chinese and Portuguese cultures, Macau offers a unique East-meets-West combination of cuisine, architecture and traditional customs. HKAF is organising this one-day Macau cultural tour to delve into Sino-Portuguese culture, cuisine and the development of religious music.

After departing from Hong Kong by ferry, the first stop of the tour will be hosted by Antonieta Manhão (Neta), a famous chef of Macanese Portuguese cuisine, who will demonstrate the making of potato and kale soup and octopus salad. Under Neta’s guidance, participants will learn to cook the traditional dish of Portuguese chicken. Participants who opt out of the cooking workshop may refer to the HKAF’s travel handbook and explore Bairro de São Lázaro, a place full of religious and social significance, as well as iconic landmarks such as St Lazarus Church, before enjoying lunch on their own. Participants opting for different experiences should purchase different priced tickets.

The second stop will be hosted by the Diocesan Director of Sacred Music of the Diocese of Macau, Mr Andrew Leung, who will lead a tour of the Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady, St Joseph’s Seminary and the Diocesan Office of Historical Archive and Patrimony, discovering the beauty of the organs installed in the two churches. Leung will also introduce the history and development of religious music in Macau.

To round off this culturally rich experience, participants will enjoy Portugese sacred music at the St Joseph’s Seminary Church, before making their own dinner arrangements and travelling back to Hong Kong as a group through Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal by transportations (tour bus and ferry) arranged by the HKAF.
