Described by The New York Times as “a genuine artist, with a thoughtful and poetic interpretation”, pianist Minsoo Sohn is celebrated for his musical intelligence and masterful virtuosity. He has recorded the complete cycle of Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas in 2020.

Following his captivating performance and insightful masterclass at the 2024 Hong Kong Arts Festival, we are delighted to welcome Minsoo Sohn back to Hong Kong for both a performance with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and an exclusive masterclass. A distinguished artist in his own right, Sohn is also widely recognised as the mentor of the youngest-ever winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Yunchan Lim. This is a rare opportunity for aspiring pianists to learn directly from Sohn, an esteemed Professor of Piano at the New England Conservatory.

The Hong Kong Arts Festival is now inviting student pianists to apply to take part in this masterclass and receive direct instruction from Sohn. Interested applicants should email their names, contact details (email and telephone numbers), proposed repertoire, a short statement explaining why they wish to take part in the masterclass, and a video recording of them playing the first three minutes of their chosen piece to plus@hkaf.org by 16 January 2026. Successful candidates will be notified individually about further details, including payment arrangements.
