This screening invites audiences to revisit the film in cinemas, ahead of the Jockey Club InnoArts Series: KAGAMI by Ryuichi Sakamoto & Tin Drum in February and March. Monster marks the final film score by Ryuichi Sakamoto. Kore-eda had envisioned Sakamoto’s music from the start, and although illness prevented the maestro from composing the full soundtrack, he generously offered his existing works and composed two new pieces. His earlier track “aqua” became the film’s haunting theme.
A post-screening talk will feature Vicky Fung, the renowned musician and co-music director of the award-winning animated feature Another World, in conversation with Iris Liu (iii), the singer-songwriter and film score composer of Time Still Turns The Pages and A Guilty Conscience. The session will be conducted in Cantonese.
