Presented by the HKAF and led by Cantonese opera master Yuen Siu-fai, the 300 Years of Cantonese Opera project enters its second year with a theme based on inheritance and development. This year’s programme invites audiences to revisit Cantonese opera classics from recent decades. Among the highlights is The Story of Wu Zixu - a touching tale of loyalty and righteousness, written and originally performed by Yuen Siu-fai. With its intricate storyline, the work stands as one of the most challenging undertakings of Master Yuen’s career.
In this talk, Master Yuen will reflect on the creative process and challenges of bringing The Story of Wu Zixu to life and share how the title character has shaped both his personal and artistic lives. At the crossroads of righteousness and fate, history and opera, Master Yuen reveals the emotional depth and cultural resonance of one of Chinese history’s most complex and compelling figures.
