Two generations. Two masterworks. The dance legend’s long-awaited Hong Kong return
Founded in 1983, the pioneering dance company Rosas has amassed a huge following globally with its bold and mesmerising choreography. For more than four decades, Rosas has been a groundbreaking force in contemporary dance, led by its visionary founder and choreographer, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. A trailblazer in modern dance, De Keersmaeker’s works explore the profound relationship between movement and music, drawing inspiration from geometry, nature, and social structures. Her innovative use of music spans Western and Indian classical works, modern compositions by Steve Reich, and songs by artists such as Joan Baez.
More than 40 years since creating Rosas, De Keersmaeker still nurtures new generations of dancers, keeping the company’s repertoire refreshed and timeless. Now, Rosas returns to the Festival, marking the company’s first Hong Kong appearance in more than two decades. Their long-awaited comeback features two captivating works: the iconic Rosas danst Rosas, the perfect showcase of Rosas' signature movement language and choreographic style; and BREL, a newly choreographed duet inspired by the music of Jacques Brel, last century’s “King of Chanson”. In this rare and exciting performance, De Keersmaeker herself will take the stage alongside rising dance talent Solal Mariotte.
