A space where realities shift, overstimulation becomes an art form

Seeing is no longer believing. Prepare to have your perceptions of reality heavily challenged—perhaps even completely shattered—while surrounded by almost complete darkness.

For more than three decades, German artist Ulf Langheinrich has explored how technology can alter the way we perceive the world. He first gained international recognition in the 1990s as co-founder of the influential audiovisual collective Granular-Synthesis, whose groundbreaking works helped shape a new generation of immersive media art. Rather than treating sound and images as tools for storytelling, Langheinrich pioneered an artistic language that uses light, movement and volume to affect the body directly, transforming perception into the artwork itself.

Since then, his works have been presented by leading institutions and festivals including MoMA PS1 in New York, ZKM Karlsruhe, the Liverpool Biennial and Lumiere London, immersing audiences worldwide in environments that blur the boundaries between visual art, performance and pure sensory overload.

Now, in collaboration with the HKAF, Langheinrich presents his new dance creation SHIFT, a heart-stopping and mind-bending performance that pushes these explorations even further. Featuring five dancers, a monumental LED wall, stereoscopic 3D projections and strobe lighting, SHIFT unfolds as a choreography of bodies, light and perception. As darkness gives way to flashes of movement and bursts of visual intensity, audiences are invited into an uneasy yet deeply compelling encounter where the acts of seeing, hearing and feeling become inseparable.
