“Like an episode of Black Mirror on steroids”—The Irish Times Winner of four Irish Times Theatre Awards 2022
Audiences have long been captivated by works that challenge reality—Black Mirror, The Truman Show, Inception—and now you can experience a mind-bending story like these live on stage. Volcano is a visceral and provocative theatre production that invites you into an enigmatic world where two characters find themselves caught between entrapment and escape.
Set in a liminal space—a decaying living room littered with relics of a bygone era—the characters dance to fragmented memories: a wild night at a rave, a beloved game show, an ‘80s music video. Quietly clinging to these distant echoes of the past, they piece together clues about their existence, only to reveal the deeper precariousness of their reality. Through this fever dream of confusion and shattered assumptions, audiences are drawn into a world where nothing is as it seems.
Directed by acclaimed Irish choreographer and director Luke Murphy, Volcano blurs the boundaries between theatre, dance, sci-fi and psychological thrillers. It’s presented in an unusual four-part mini-series format designed for the Netflix generation and offers a captivating, voyeuristic journey that will linger in the memory long after the curtain falls.
