The Wharf Group Proudly Sponsors Deep Space Hong Kong: Island & Islands
The Deep Space Hong Kong series is not available for Advance Bookings and will be open for public sales from 3 December. Schedules and details of this thematic experience, as well as ticketing arrangements, will be announced on this website.
Islands are never really cut off from the rest of the world and the Hong Kong we know only represents a fleeting moment in deep geological time. Media artist Keith Lam works with data, moving image and sound to examine the relationship between technology, humanity and the natural world. Drawing on Hong Kong’s geology and rock formations, this work transforms geological history and contemporary landscapes into a living body of data. Re-imagined through artificial intelligence, the project invites audiences to traverse Hong Kong’s terrain as it exists between memory, reality and speculation. Crossing dimensions and temporalities, visitors are encouraged to envision landscapes that are yet to emerge and to imagine futures that have not yet come into being.
Deep Space Hong Kong: An immersive and interactive space with a soul of its own
A world-renowned, immersive multi-user virtual reality environment, Deep Space is—as its name suggests—designed to deepen the way we interact with our surroundings, whether it’s viewing a famous building, observing a fish swimming through water, travelling through the universe or even revisiting a beloved anime series.
What makes Deep Space so distinctive is its ability to transform an empty physical environment into an infinite number of worlds. It can become a theatre, a path through nature, an arena for gaming or an interactive presentation on science, heritage or virtually any subject. Prompted by audio guides and visual cues, visitors are free to engage with the content in groups of friends or family members, or in their own way, whether sitting, lying down or moving around the space.
Deep Space has served as the flagship experience of major Austrian cultural and scientific platform Ars Electronica for more than a decade, and cultivated a connected global ecosystem by embedding collaborative hubs across cultural institutions in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Going far beyond projection mapping and laser-tracking technology, it provides a communal environment in which people can explore, learn and experience together. Constantly evolving through new content, technologies and collaborations, Deep Space continues to find fresh ways of connecting with different communities.
Now, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the HKSAR’s establishment and the Festival’s 55th anniversary, the HKAF presents Deep Space Hong Kong, featuring five thematic experiences specially selected for Hong Kong audiences. Enter your favourite world or explore them all with family and friends, and discover how Deep Space can transform the way you see, learn and imagine.
